Mirvac's Affordability Experiment in key partnership with Synergy, Keystart, TERRACE WA has officially commenced
It’s been a year since we commenced Mirvac’s Affordability Experiment – an industry-leading project that has seen us monitor the utility consumption, spending and saving patterns as well as lifestyle impacts of a family to help us gain an understanding of the energy and cost savings that can be achieved by living in an efficient home.
We’ve run this experiment together with our key project partners - Synergy, Keystart and Terrace Homes, and we’ve been so encouraged by the results to date that together, we’ve made the decision to extend the experiment by a further 6-months.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the home has consumed 4,497kWh and generated 7,408kWh of electricity. The home has consumed only 887kWh of electricity from the grid. The total energy bill for this period is $450 of which the supply charge and account fees make up $406. The total energy bill (electricity and gas) for a similar sized home in the same area is approximately $2,542.
The results so far have been fascinating and we’re looking forward to releasing more of the final results of the Experiment in June 2022.
Developed to address the challenges of affordable housing, both in terms of the initial purchase price and on-going living costs – the findings from the Experiment will play a key role in the future delivery of net-zero housing design concepts.
